Meet Elizabeth.
She’s Making Things Happen.

Professional. Caring. Supportive. Approachable. Elizabeth Stadtlander is a counseling and therapy professional helping couples, families and individuals regain control of their lives.

During sessions with Elizabeth you will receive immediate feedback on the information and stories you share. You will know that she is listening, and you will experience the cultivation of a deeply bonded client-therapist relationship that is strong and connected. Several current studies have shown that there are only 2 factors that predict the success of therapy; 1. The strength of the client-therapist relationship; and 2. The client’s willingness to change. So if you are ready to ignite change in your life, the partnership you build at Actuation Counseling will be just what you need to make change happen.

Elizabeth’s therapeutic style is non-traditional and progressive. It debunks stereotypes often associated with therapists and the therapeutic process. Sessions are longer so clients don’t feel like they are racing against the clock or cut-off in the middle of a meaningful discussion. Therapy takes place in a relaxed, warm, private home-like atmosphere to foster comfort, as Elizabeth does away with the classic “cold and clinical” setting. Laughter will be a natural part of your therapeutic experience, as Elizabeth works hard to show clients that therapy does not have to be threatening or scary– but rather– can be fun and empowering!

Elizabeth believes that the focus of therapy should always be on what the client wants–  not on what the therapist wants. During sessions you will find yourself in a non-judgmental environment that provides you with the safety you need to always be yourself. In return you will receive guidance from a direct, to-the-point, honest counselor whose only goal is to help you achieve the goals that you have for yourself.

Trained in the more progressive Post-Modern perspective*, Elizabeth takes the position that more often than not, our emotional reactivity to life events and close relationships cloud our judgment, making it impossible to think clearly about how to manage our lives. When we are unable to manage our lives, everything, including our close relationships and self-image suffer.

Elizabeth believes that we learn who we are through our relationships; so what are your relationships saying about you?

Elizabeth is a graduate of Barry University’s dual track Master’s program in both Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy. She is educated and trained to work with individuals, couples and families. Additionally, she completed one year in Barry University’s Doctoral Program that specializes in Counseling, Supervision and Counselor Education. Her professional experience includes positions at the Children’s Bereavement Center of Miami, Aventura Hospital’s Behavioral Health Unit, and private practice. She has lived extensively in both Pittsburgh, PA and Miami, FL. As such, she has extensive experience working with and living amongst many different world cultures.

*Post-Modernism/Post-Modern Therapy: a philosophy or way of thinking that deconstructs common cultural beliefs of what is healthy/good or unhealthy/bad. It explores how said cultural beliefs may be impacting the client/clients. Post-Modernists believe that there are no absolute truths and that “truths” are socially constructed and agreed to by society.  In Post-Modern Therapy therapists are partners and collaborators to their clients, rather than authority figures.
